How to Prepare for Ayahuasca
Ayahuasca, a Sacred Path to Spiritual Healing
Ayahuasca offers a profound opportunity for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. At Reshin Nika Spiritual Center, we believe that intentional preparation is key to unlocking the transformative power of this sacred plant medicine.
Prepare yourself—body, mind, and spirit—for a life-changing journey that begins well before you enter the ceremonial space.
1. Why Preparation Matters for Ayahuasca Healing
The Ayahuasca and Master Plant Dieta journey is not just about the ceremony; preparation is equally vital. When you commit to this path, the plant begins its work even before you arrive.
What to Expect Before Your Retreat:
Resurfacing of emotions, fears, and unresolved traumas.
Heightened self-awareness and introspection.
Initial energetic clearing as the plant works on your spirit.
Key Tip: Approach pre-ceremony experiences with gratitude, compassion and trust. The discomfort signals areas of healing.
2. The Ayahuasca Dieta: Honoring the Medicine
The Ayahuasca Dieta is a sacred practice that cleanses your body and prepares your energy to connect deeply with the plant.
What to Consume:
Fresh fruits and vegetables.
Plenty of clean, purified water.
Light, plant-based meals.
Cleansing Tip: Practices like Epsom salt baths, light fasting, or juice detoxes help prepare your physical body.
Embarking on an Ayahuasca ceremony is a sacred journey—one that invites deep introspection, healing, and connection with the spirit of the medicine. At Reshin Nika Spiritual Center, we honor this profound process by upholding traditions rooted in respect, humility, and spiritual integrity. Whether you're preparing for your first ceremony or seeking to deepen your understanding, observing proper etiquette ensures a safe and transformative experience for all.
🌿 The Spirit of Ceremony: Why Etiquette Matters
An Ayahuasca ceremony is more than a personal journey; it's a collective sacred space where each participant's energy contributes to the whole. Adhering to established guidelines fosters an environment of mutual respect and safety, allowing the medicine to work effectively and harmoniously.
✅ Do’s: Embracing the Sacred Path
1. Prepare Your Body and Mind
Begin with the dieta, a traditional preparation involving abstention from certain foods and substances. This typically includes avoiding alcohol, caffeine, processed foods, and sexual activity for at least a week prior to the ceremony. Such practices purify the body and align the mind for the journey ahead.
2. Set Clear Intentions
Reflect on your purpose for participating in the ceremony. By setting a clear, heartfelt intention, you can guide your experience and stay focused during challenging moments. An intention of “I wish to release what no longer serves me” can be best, as we don’t always know what it is we need to release, or what is in our way. Ayahuasca sees a much larger larger birds eye view of our lives and energy.
3. Respect the Sacred Space
The maloka, or ceremonial space, is held as sacred. Maintain silence before, during, and after the ceremony to honor the collective experience. Refrain from unnecessary movements and respect boundaries.
4. Trust the Process
Ayahuasca works in mysterious ways, often bringing forth unexpected insights. Surrender to the experience, trusting that the medicine will guide you where you need to go.
5. Support Fellow Participants
Hold space for others by maintaining a non-judgmental presence. Everyone's journey is unique, and showing compassion enhances the process.
❌ Don’ts: Avoiding Disruptions
1. Avoid Disruptive Behavior
Loud talking, unnecessary movements, or engaging with others during the ceremony can disrupt the sacred atmosphere. Maintain focus on your inner journey and respect the silence.
2. Don't Leave the Ceremony Space
Unless guided by a facilitator, remain within the maloka throughout the ceremony. Wandering off can be unsafe and breaks the protective energy of the group.
3. Refrain from Physical Contact
Physical interactions, even comforting gestures, can interfere with another's process. Maintain personal boundaries to allow each participant their own space.
4. Don't Force the Experience
Avoid trying to control or force visions and emotions. Allow the medicine to work naturally, guiding you through the experience at its own pace.
🌺 Post-Ceremony: Integration and Reflection
After the ceremony, take time to rest and reflect. Journaling, meditation, and sharing experiences in integration circles can help process insights gained. Remember, the ceremony is just the beginning; Ayahuasca integration is where lasting transformation occurs.
At Reshin Nika, we are committed to supporting you through every step of your healing journey. By honoring these guidelines, you contribute to a safe and sacred environment where profound transformation can unfold.
Embrace the journey with an open heart, and let the medicine guide you to the depths of your soul.
What does intention really mean and how does this lead to transformation?
Your intention is an anchor for your Ayahuasca (and Master Plant Dieta) experience.
Intentions in an Ayahuasca ceremony can range from super specific to more general but regardless can help you to focus and get the most out of your ayahuasca experience. When there is a clear intention there is a clear result.
Ayahuasca ceremonies can elicit deep emotional, energetic and spiritual journeys of the mind, body and soul and can confront certain parts of your subconscious. If you end up in a dark or unknown space, remembering your intention can also recenter you.
How to set intentions for your ayahuasca ceremony?
First, take some to reflect on why you feel called to experience ayahuasca.
Ask yourself these questions:
What am I seeking to learn?
What am I seeking to understand?
What is calling out to me?
How do I feel about my life?
What is difficult for me right now?
Your intention is ultimately the answer to the question “why did I decide to work with ayahuasca?”.
Additionally, setting an intention doesn’t mean focusing on a problem, or reliving anything. Instead, it’s about focusing on what is on the other side of what you want to solve.
For example: You want to get rid of anxiety.
By repeating “I want to get rid of my anxiety”, you focus exactly on that. You may end up repeating the wrong mantra: anxiety, anxiety, anxiety… Instead of focusing on anxiety, focus on the solution.
Focus on what lies on the other side of the ‘problem’ you want to be solved. Focus on what you want to attain. Maybe that’s courage, confidence or freedom.
Another way to approach setting an intention is to simply ask Mother Ayahuasca to show you what you need to know or do to continue evolving in your life and be open to receiving those revelations. Or to simply ask her to release what no longer serves you.

Facing Your Shadow Self

By surrendering to uncomfortable emotions, you can transmute suffering into freedom. Ayahuasca teaches that healing comes from feeling, not avoiding.
