Apprenticeship, Ayahuasquero Curandero Initiation Course; Study of The Shipibo Healing Tradition
In the Shipibo tradition, the path to becoming an ayahuasquero or curandero ceremonial space holder is a long, disciplined journey—comparable in many ways to a form of medical school. It requires years of apprenticeship with a teacher (maestro) and extended periods of isolation while working with various master plants through dietas. During these dietas, one not only learns from the plants but also undergoes deep personal healing, which is an essential part of the process.
True ayahuasqueros have spent significant time in ceremony with ayahuasca and prolonged dieta’s themselves (8-10 years), facing and healing their own wounds. The learning continues through the plants—they become the true teachers. The path looks different for everyone and depends on many factors: the length and frequency of your dietas, which plants you're dieting, your level of personal healing, your discipline, your ability to fast and maintain focus, and even your gender—all of these influence the depth and speed of your process.
Reshin Nika follows this traditional way. Before considering anyone for apprenticeship or training in this sacred work, he requires that you first sit in ceremony with him and complete a minimum 14-day dieta under his guidance. This time allows him to assess not only your sincerity, commitment, and readiness—but also to begin the energetic connection that is essential between teacher and student in this path.
If, after that, he feels it is aligned, you may be invited to begin learning more deeply. The training unfolds gradually, with great care and respect, and can take anywhere from 6 months to years—depending on your process.
